It was a huge privilege back in February to be asked to be part of the judging panel for the Scratch Star Awards. Being an educator with The Creative Beauty Group has opened up so many opportunities and now as Head Educator I was intensely proud to be representing TCBG as a judge!
Already in Bournemouth for the Entity Education Summit it was a early start as both myself and Layla drove up to London for a 9:45am start! Welcomed by the lovely editor Helena Biggs we were briefed on the day ahead with our very own timetables and score sheets for judging. We were then split into two teams of judges and the day was split into two judging sessions.
There were two parts to the judging process, the practical competition, in which finalists compete and then a five minute informal interview with them to delve a little deeper into their careers and skill set.
For the morning my team was judging:
- Gel Polish Manicurist of the Year
- Pedicurist of the Year
- Mixed Media Artist of the Year
The finalists had a already been given the criteria for each competition and were encouraged to act as if in a salon, with music playing and interaction with their models as we observed each of them individually.
After lunch it was time for the second session of judging.
For the afternoon my team was judging:
- One Stroke Artist of the Year
- Nail Stylist of the Year
Again we then broke into smaller teams to interview.
The standard of the competition was extremely high and the pressure was intense for us as well as the competitors. With such a tough job just to be shortlisted for the competition everyone who took part should feel like a winner!
It’s not until June however that we find out the results and presents some very deserved winners with their Scratch awards!
After such an inspiring day we didn’t have much time to waste as we were back on the road to Bournemouth to pick up pizza ready for TCBG Entity Education Summit Pizza and PJ party!
